Matthew Cooper Appointed Complex General Manager for IHG HALO Project
Matthew Cooper has been appointed Complex General Manager for an upcoming iconic HALO project by IHG Hotels & Resorts, where he will oversee the opening and operations of Regent Sanya Haitang Bay and Hotel Indigo Sanya Haitang Bay on Hainan Island, China.
Cooper currently serves as General Manager of Kimpton Qiantan Shanghai, a role he has held since January 2024, leading operations at one of Shanghai’s flagship lifestyle hospitality destinations.
Prior to this, he was General Manager of InterContinental Shanghai Harbour City, overseeing resort operations at the distinctive lakeside property in Pudong. Earlier in 2021, he served as General Manager of The PuXuan Hotel and Spa, guiding the luxury property through a transitional leadership phase.
Between 2019 and 2021, Cooper led The Shanghai EDITION as General Manager, strengthening the property’s positioning within Shanghai’s competitive luxury lifestyle segment.
His broader leadership experience includes senior general management roles with Marriott International, including General Manager positions at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul, JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, Bengaluru Marriott Hotel Whitefield, and Courtyard by Marriott Gurugram Downtown.
Earlier in his career, Cooper held food and beverage leadership roles at Hyderabad Marriott Hotel & Convention Centre and Brisbane Marriott Hotel, building a strong operational foundation that later supported his progression into senior executive leadership.
With extensive international experience across China, South Korea, India, and Australia, Cooper brings deep expertise in luxury operations, lifestyle positioning, and complex hotel openings to this landmark IHG development in Hainan Island.
