The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced Madrid, Spain, as the location of its new Global Office, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s long-term global strategy. The decision was taken unanimously by WTTC’s Operating Committee following a comprehensive strategic review aimed at enhancing the Council’s effectiveness, reach and global impact.
Spain was selected for its unique combination of strong international connectivity, a highly skilled and diverse talent pool, and a well-established public–private commitment to the travel and tourism sector. Madrid, in particular, offers a strategic base that will enable WTTC to operate more efficiently while reinforcing its role as the leading global authority representing the private sector of travel and tourism.
WTTC Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre highlighted that the decision reflects a clear vision for the organisation’s future. He emphasised the need for stronger research capabilities, deeper engagement with governments and policymakers, and a truly international outlook to address the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the global tourism industry.
Gloria Guevara Manzo, WTTC’s Interim President & CEO, underscored Spain’s strong understanding of the critical role travel and tourism play in driving economic growth and job creation. She noted that Madrid provides an exceptional platform for closer collaboration with WTTC members, national governments and international institutions, further strengthening the Council’s ability to advocate for the sector at the highest levels.
WTTC also expressed its appreciation to all the cities and countries that participated in the selection process, acknowledging their interest, engagement and commitment to supporting global travel and tourism.
As WTTC moves into the next phase, it will work closely with the Government of Spain to bring the new Global Office to life. This development reinforces WTTC’s commitment to advancing travel and tourism as a powerful driver of economic growth, employment and positive global impact, while ensuring the sector remains resilient, sustainable and future-ready.
