Pakistan Issues First Ever Ferry Service Licence to Boost Maritime Tourism

Pakistan has issued its first-ever ferry service licence in a historic move aimed at boosting maritime tourism and strengthening the country’s blue economy.

The licence was granted when Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry inaugurated Pakistan’s first ferry terminal at Karachi Port Trust on Thursday.

The ferry service is expected to begin operations later this month. The minister said the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision to tap into the vast potential of the blue economy and diversify maritime-related economic activities.

He explained that the launch of ferry services will help realize the long-standing vision of introducing modern, safe and sustainable maritime passenger transport in Pakistan.

The minister highlighted growing investor interest in the sector. More businessmen have expressed keen interest in obtaining licences to operate ferry services. He expressed confidence that increased private sector participation would create a boom in maritime tourism.

Chaudhry urged the business community to come forward with innovative ideas and proposals for doing business with Pakistani ports. “We welcome new concepts and investments, and the ministry will extend full cooperation and facilitation to ensure their success,” he said.

The minister added that the inauguration of the terminal would further strengthen confidence and trust among the business community.
