Pakistan launches online visa facility for 192 countries to boost tourism, foreign investment, minister says

Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said that Pakistan has introduced online visa facilities for citizens of 192 countries. The move is part of the government’s efforts to enhance tourism and attract foreign investment, as part of a broader strategy to develop the sector.

Addressing the Sustainable Tourism Forum and Expo, jointly organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Sheikh emphasised the government’s commitment to advancing the tourism industry. He noted that Pakistan’s economy had made significant strides, with the stock market now ranking among the best in the world, and industrial investment on the rise.

Sheikh pointed out that while progress has been made, more efforts are needed to further promote tourism in the country. He highlighted the importance of sustainable development and reiterated the government’s full support for the initiative.

Under the new visa policy, citizens of 192 countries are now eligible for online visas, simplifying the travel process. Additionally, travelers from 120 countries are granted visa-on-arrival facilities. The minister noted that these reforms are aimed at encouraging international tourism and easing the entry process for foreign visitors.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh discussed the global significance of tourism, which accounts for 10 percent of the global economy, and emphasized that many developed countries have heavily invested in this sector. He highlighted Pakistan’s natural beauty, noting that the country is one of the few in the world that experiences all four seasons, making it a unique destination for tourists.

Sheikh also underscored the importance of tourism in creating employment opportunities, boosting trade, and contributing to GDP growth. He drew attention to Pakistan’s rich historical and cultural sites, such as the ancient Mohenjo-daro civilization and the country’s Sufi heritage, both of which are vital to the development of the tourism sector.
